What will happen if I recently had a car accident for which the other party was at fault and I chose to repair the damages?
Their insurance claimed my vehicle a total loss. I was told by the other party’s insurer by my doing that they are not responsible of the rental car. I want to know if that statement is true?

I suggest that you make a claim with the other party's carrier as well as your own insurance company. You still have time to make a claim even though you elected to make the repairs on your own without any assistance from any insurance carrier.
