What is my best course of action if I made a $500 payment to take the bar exam but later stopped payment?
After sending the check in the mail I got an opportunity in another state so I put a stop payment on the check. I recently received a notice from the Bar saying that this is illegal and am facing unknown sanctions.

I suggest that you call the State Bar where you issued the check and ask for the specifics as to why your stopping of payment of a check is illegal. I know of no state that provided that a stop payment on a check is a criminal act.
