Do I need a lawyer for a second offense shoplifting charge?
I received a ticket last year for shoplifting. I went to court and paid a fine; I was not charged or arrested. Then I was just arrested again for shoplifting 3 months ago. My court date is next week. Will I have this on my record?

At this point you have lost your first-time offender status. This means that, if found guilty, you will face fines, restitituion, and/or community service. It also means that you will be left with a criminal record which can affect furture employment, rental housing, student loans and more. At this point you should definitely consult with a criminal law attorney in your area. They can best advise you further. With luck they can get the charge thrown out or at least reduced, or if need be, have you go to trial and possibly obtain an acquittal for you.
