I was accused by my boss of email doctoring.

My boss accused me of email doctoring on Friday. I’m planning on calling company hotline to request an investigation. I didn’t know what email doctoring meant. I’m 100% certain that I was wrongly accused. He also accused me of disclosing confidential information in my last performance review, however he had to retract his statement because it was not true. Do you think I need an attorney to see my case before I do formal report to my employer. I already reported previous issues to HR but nothing changed.

Unfortunately, there may be nothing that you or an attorney can do. That is unless you have an employment contract or union agreement that gives you protection under the circumstances. Basically, in an "at will" work relationship, a company can set the conditions of employment much as it sees fit, absent some form of legally actionable discrimination.
