What will happen if I was arrested for shoplifting last night?
It was my first offence and the items were less than $25. I have court next week; will I need a lawyer for that? Will I be able to get a pretrial diversion?

The amount you stole does not equate to a felony amount so that is a huge bonus for you. It is always a good idea to obtain counsel to help you negotiate (plea bargain) for a diversion or alternative sentencing program.
