The deopsit would be returned to the legal tenant. What the tenant (person on the lease) does with it is of no concern to the Landlord or anyone else, other than your former roommates. If you had some agreement with them to split it and you don't, that is up to you all to resolve. nothing to do with landlord tenant law.
