Whether you are required to name the HOA as an additional insured to one's homeowner's insurance depends upon what the factual basis is for the demand. If the recorded covenants, conditions & restrictions where your property is located mandates such then you are required to do so.
I suggest that you consult with an attorney that has experience with planned unit developments to assist you in your matter and go over the basis for the HOA's claim.
