Yes, sure they can. It is a contract between you and the landlord and the landlord can put that in and you can ask to take it out or reduce the time to say 30 days. But the landlord wants notice of your intent to stay or not so that he or she can re rent the proeprty and not lose any income. It is not unreasonable. Good luck.
