I am currently retired through the Ca. PERS Retirement system and collect a
pension. I applied for a disability retirement through PERS. If this disability
retirement is granted can I also collect social security. I am 50 years old.

Unfortunately, social security is not about whether you have "retired" or whether you can or do work, and it's also not about your health or disability status: it is purely about age. The youngest you can start collecting social security (at a reduced rate--i.e. less per year than if you wait until you are older to start collecting) is age 62, regardless of employment status or disability.
