Under the terms of most listing agreements that I have reviewed, the seller of a piece of property when he or she signs the listing agreement engages the brokerage designated in the listing agreement and not the specific agent.
In the situation that you are writing about, if the lisitng agreement is with your former brokerage, your former brokerage has the client, not your new brokerage. In such a situation, you need to reach some sort of an agreement with your former brokerage if your client wants you to list the property where you are now affiliated with your new brokerage.
