If I overpaid my customer twice the amount for a refund, does he have to return the overpaid amount?

I told the customer I would refund $120 to his card. I asked my card processing company to do so. Three weeks later, the customer claimed that they still didn’t get the refund and threatened legal action against me if I didn’t refund the money within one day. I refunded them in cash and had them sign a paper to prove it. Now, a month later, my card processing company decided to refund the amount. Thus, the customer received twice the amount they were supposed to. If they keep the money, that is stealing. I need to find what my rights are here.
