If I’m in the US holding a B2 visa and I start filling an I-539 form for change of status to F1 online, do I need to explain why I want to change my status?
And, if yes, in which part of that form do I hve to do it?

If you are filing for a change of status to F-1, then you need to provide supporting documentation from the school about the course of study you are about to undertake. That will serve as the documentation and explanation for why you are applying for a change of status.
