Absent a court order of emancipation of a minor, a parent is still legally obligated under the laws of all states in this country to care for his or her minor child.
As such, a seventeen (17) year old can move out of his or her parents' home but the parents are entitled under the law to have law enforcement return the minor child to their custody. Parents are responsible for a child until he or she are 18 years of age and finish their senior year of high school.
