Hi, a few weeks ago, while I was getting out of a Lyft vehicle, I accidentally
closed my thumb in the door, resulting in a clean break.
As my medical bills begin to mount, my health insurance company is telling me
that I should submit this claim on Lyft’s insurance – even though I was the one
to close my own thumb in the door.
Is this accurate?
Should my own insurance cover this, or is it still under Lyft’s liability?

Your personal injury claim should be filed with Lfyt's insurance carrier. Notify that insurance carrier in writing that you will be filing a personal injury claim.
When you complete your medical treatment and are released by the doctor, obtain your medical bills, medical reports, and documentation of wage loss.
Your personal injury claim filed with Lyft's insurance carrier should include those items.
Compensation for the medical bills is straight reimbursement. The medical reports will document your injury and will be used to determine compensation for pain and suffering which is an amount in addition to the medical bills. Compensation for wage loss is straight reimbursement.
If the case is settled with Lyft's insurance carrier, NO lawsuit is filed.
If you are dissatisfied with the settlement offers from Lyft's insurance carrier, reject them and file a lawsuit for negligence against Lyft.
If the case is NOT settled, your lawsuit must be filed prior to the expiration of the applicable statute of limitations or you will lose your rights forever in the matter.
