Is a mechanic liable if paid to inspect a car for purchase but failed to find a defect?
I paid a mechanic to inspect a used car which I purchased with his OK. Now a few days later, I find the engine has a crack and needs replacement. I am having the mechanic come back to take a look at the car. What accountability does the mechanic have in this situation?

Unless the first guy was in cahoots with the seller and was trying to defraud you, damages are generally limited to the price you paid for the inspection.
