Is an employee liable for expenses incurred by his employer?

The employee was put in jail on a DWI charge in a company vehicle. The owner had to fly to Denver, rent a car and finish the job. Is the employee liable for any of the expenses incurred by the employer?

Yes, the employer is liable: he or she was (at least) negligent, or unreasonably careless, in getting a DWI; people are liable, or financially responsible, for the direct and foreseeable economic costs or losses they impose on others, including their employer, through their negligence. It is foreseeable that if you DWI while in a different city on a job with a company car, that the employer would incur travel and vehicle related expenses as a result; therefore, the employee is liable.
