Is being out of the country for one year and not receiving notice of license suspension an acceptable defense?
I was away from the country studying abroad when I received a notice of suspension of my license and was never informed. I recently received a no operator’s license ticket and my car was towed. As soon as I found out that my license was suspended, I went to the MVA the very next day to have it cleared – it was due to an unpaid speeding ticket from several years back. I had to pay $300 plus towing costs. Now I’m going to court for this trial and I want to know if I show proof that I was studying abroad during the period when notices were sent, if I can get out of the case?

Based upon what you have written being out of the country for a year and not receiving notice of your driver's license being suspended is not an acceptable excuse but with the right judge it can be possibly a mitigating factor with respect to the severity of any punishment that you may receive.
