Is it lawful to get fired after 9 months of service due to a background check?
When I was hired I let them know I had a background and then after 9 months of
service, the police come to my job and told them to do a background check on me. Then they fired me because of my background.

Unfortunately, it is legal. In the U.S., unless someone has a written employment contract protecting his or her job, he or she may be terminated at any time, for any reason ("employment at will") which is not prohibited by law. No law, however, prevents employers from terminating employees because of a background check; it is legal to terminate a person due to his or her background.
