Is it legal to videotape someone without their consent?

My roommate filmed me on a webcam without my consent or knowledge in our college dorm room while I was alone. Is this legal?

Depends on the law in your state. A college dorm is not a public place such that videotaping another should be under the consent or permission of the person being videotaped, or otherwise the person would run afoul of invasion of privacy law. If this is just one instance, just tell him or her to stop. If he or she continues then you may have to report to the authorities,
