I worked 56 hour in a 7 day period without a off day. Is that legal?

The fact is that there is no limit as to how many days/hours in a row that most employees can be made to work. Exceptions are made for airline pilot, truckers, some medical personel, etc. who do have restrictions placed on them. That having been said, if you are a "non-exempt" worker (typically one who is paid on an hourly basis), then for any hours over 40 that you work in your work week, you must be paid OT.
