Yes, you can be terminated for missing work unless--
1) You had and used paid time off (PTO), like sick or vacation days, to cover the absence; or
2) Your employer is covered by the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), you are eligible for it, this medically related absence met the criteria for FMLA, and you used FMLA leave for it. (You can find the FMLA rules on the U.S. Dept. of Labor, or DOL, website.)
Apart from the above--PTO or FMLA leave--your employer may terminate you for missing work, even with a medical excuse. There is no general right to miss work even for good or medical reasons in this country.
