I am afraid that if you don't have an employment contract, union agreement or company policy protecting you from such action, then you can legally be discharged for this. The reason is that as an "at will" employee, your employer can terminate you for this reason or any reason; in fact you can lose your job for no reason at all (assuming that no actionable discrimination is the reason).
