If my brother died with less than $20,000 in assets, do we have to go to probate?
He had an old mobile home and a very few pieces of furniture. I am in another state, retired with some medical issues, and want to know how to proceed. He is being cremated. The funeral home is trying to help me but I am confused as to what the order of things to do. I know I will have to travel to settle with death certificates, his bank (he is over-drawn), and other matters.

As in most other states, in AR probate can be avoided for small estates. A quicker and less costly option exits; an affidavit is filed if estate assets are less than $100,000. Here is a link to a site that will explain further: www.arlegalservices.org/files/FSSmallEstates.pdf
