I am so sorry for your loss. The beneficairy designation portion of the policy will govern and if there is no alternate beneficiary named in the policy, the policy generally holds that "the estate" is the beneficary. So the proceeds will be paid to "The Estate of so and so." Call the insruance company and ask for the paperwork. Some one will ahve to be appointed as the Personal Representative of the estate.
