Do I have to pay for something that an attorney was supposed to have done 11 years ago?
My father passed away 11 years ago. I paid a lawyer to file papers so I could empty his safe deposit box. I had no further contact with this lawyer until a few months ago when he contacted me and told me the estate had never been closed and asked me to send whatever records I had. I did that and then he sent me a bill for his services.

Get yourself another lawyer that specializes in probate to bring this matter to a conclusion, and require the former lawyer to settle his claim out via a creditors claim and have a hearing on the vaslue of his services, to be paid out of the estate if any.
