If my fiancée has recently passed away, how do I retrieve money from his credit union?

I spoke with his family and they gave me their blessing to do so.

I am so sorry for your loss.  Unfortunately, you are not going to be able to do so unless you are appointed as the personal representative of his estate in filing a probate and everyone else that would inherit under the intestacy statute waives their right and allows you to have it.  You were not married so you have no legal standing to inherit under intestacy.  Good luck.
