I am so sorry for your loss. Generally speaking, you do not need a lawyer to probate an estate. You can file the petition and supporting documents yourself. But understand that a Petition has to include ALL the assets of the estate and you MUST be appointed as the Executor in order to transfer ownership of the property via Executor's Deed. It can all get some wheat overwhelming so I would speak with a lawyer on a consultation basis maybe just to be sure. Good luck.
