Is there a way I can get a free lawyer?
My mother’s neighbors assaulted her on her own property and my mother was somehow brought into the police station. She is being held overnight and no one will tell anyone why. They will not release her until she is brought before a judge.

If your mother cannot afford an attorney, the court will appoint an attorney to represent her. In a criminal case, the appointed attorney will be the public defender.
Another option for you would be to contact your local bar association and through their referral service, you might be able to find an attorney who does pro bono work (provides free legal representation).
