He would be well-advised to get an attorney: experienced municipal or traffic counsel can help your son *substantially* reduce the penalties he will face. Most such attorneys, in my experience, will charge $500 - $1,000 for their services (you an ask the price ahead of time); while seems to be alot, you can often save that much or nearly that much in terms of fines while also reducing points on the license, which will result in further savings down the road--and make it less likely that your son will lose driving privileges. It is a worthwhile investment.
