Parole is where a defendant remains outside of jail while they are compliant with the conditions of their parole.  If a defendant violates the conditions of their parole, then their parole can be revoked and they can be sentenced to serve the full amount of time they were originally sentenced to.  So... the maximum time your friend can spend will depend on how long he was originally sentenced to.  If that time was ten years, for example, then he could be revoked and sentenced to anywhere from 0-10 years.  How much time will depend on the parole process.  If he can show that he was not actually in possession of the weed, then he can potentially avoid a revocation of his parole.
