What to do if the company that I used to work filed a case against me because I stole a $80 gift card?
I used up $55 and then when O was fired from work for that reason, I returned the giftcard and confessed to what I did. I have my court date next week and I have paid $500 bond. This is my first time offense. Should I hire a lawyer for my case?

Yes, you should hire an attorney. Even for a comparatively minor, first time offense, you want to do anything you can to increase the odds of the case being dismissed, or, if not, bargained down to a even-less-serious offense and/or have the punishment minimized. Experienced criminal defense counsel will increase your chance of a favorable outcome. In any event, without or without representation, show contrition (that you're sorry), offer to reimburse the amount you used, and stress that this was a one-time mistake or lapse in judgment.
