Is there anything that I can do if I was written up for gossiping?

My boss recently listened in stood in the hallway to a phone call I had. My colleague had phoned me and was complaining. As part of that, she said that I should have been the boss. I closed that down as best as I could by saying that that isn’t going to happen and by reiterating the reasons my current boss was hired. By boss took this as complaining/gossipping and is writing me up. I genuinely wasn’t complaining. Is there anything I can do?

Unless this write-up violated the terms of an employment contract or union agreement, you have no claim here. Absent some form of legally actionable discrimination, a company can set the conditions of employment much as it sees fit.
