If you are an hourly employee, you can contact your state Department of Labor to file a complaint, or speak with an employment law attorney about suing to recover the money.
If you are a salaried employee or are an independent contractor, your only option would be to sue--the Department of Labor will not help you.
You are entitled to be paid for all the work you did, so a lawsuit should be a viable option. Remember, though, that a salaried employee is only entitled to his/her weekly salary--that is, a salaried employee does not get extra pay for working extra hours--and if you were a contractor, you are only entitled to whatever compensation the agreement pursuant to which you were working would give you.
