Usually first time offenders are offered a probation or some time of rehab program. It's not a guarantee, but if your charge is a simple possession charge, then you have a good chance for a fair plea offer. If your case involved a larger that usual quantity of substances or use of weapons, then it may take a bit more work to get a probation.
You need to find an attorney that has experience in the court where you will be prosecuted. They will know the specific programs that you will qualify for and be able to get you access to the better deals/programs available in the court.
