Voluntarily relinquishing parental rights is not something that  the courts take lightly. While not always expressly stated, the general rule is for "good cause". Further, surrendering such rights for adoptive purposes is given greater preferance. The actual process is called "termination". You would need to seek legal help in your area with the entire process.

Note: terminating your rights relieves you of any obligation to your child from the date of termination forward. It is doubtful that it would relieve you of past support, if any, that is owing.
