What if case numbers for a divorce and child support order are incorrect?

The case number on my divorce papers and my child support order do not belong to me; it is the case number for another couple divorced in the same year. My actual case number is similar with only 1 number being different. The only way that I found the actual case number was by doing a name search on the case information on-line website. Now what can happen because of this and how can I get it fixed?

To get the case number corrected, it would be advisable to notify the court clerk and also the law clerk for the judge assigned to your case.  If it is not corrected, there could be some potential problems with your documents going in that other couple's file and being lost.  Also, notices might be sent to the other couple instead of to you. If you or your ex-spouse are represented by attorneys, the attorneys should be notified and they will get the case number corrected for you.
