How did they "lose" the ring? Did you entrust your engagement ring to them to re-set it? To size it? To clean it? If it is what is known as a "bailment" situation then they could indeed be responsible for the replacement value. Do you have the original receipt or was the ring appraised for insurance purposes? They have insurance for loss or theft I am sure. Tell them you wish to put in a claim. Good luck.
