In which state do I file for Divorce?

My brother left his wife of 32 years in IL and moved to TN a year ago. Their children are grown. She lives in the family home and he pays the mortgage. Does he file in TN or in IL, or both? Does he have to get a lawyer to file, money is a factor. Is there a standard rate lawyer’s charge?

A divorce can be filed in either the state in which they or their spouse has legal residency. Since your brother moved a year ago, he now hasis a resident of TN. So he can either file there e in IL since his wife resides there. He can file on his own; they are online forms for doing so (he can google for them).
