The homeowner could be responsible if the burglar is hurt due to some inherently unsafe condition (like broken stairs) that could affect anyone on the property; or if the homeowner uses excessive force to depend him/her home; and certainly would be held responsible if he/she had set any traps (there's a case on that). If the burglar is hurt by reasonable or approriate force, or becasue the burglar did something unsafe (e.g. fell while climbing through a 2nd story window), the homeowner should not be responsible.
